Removing intimate images

If an intimate photo or video of you is on people you know and you did not agree to it being shared, we will remove it. You do not need an account to ask, and somebody can ask for you.

Last updated: 30 September 2026.

What counts

A photo or video that shows a person’s private parts or sexual activity, including a fake made to look real, shared without that person’s consent.

How to ask

Email pykapp+safety@proton.me with these four things:

  1. Your name, typed at the end of the email. That is your signature. If you are asking for somebody else, give your name and theirs, and say that you are acting for them.
  2. Enough for us to find it: the handle of the account that shared it, about when it was shared, and anything else you know about the post, such as its caption or who was sent it.
  3. A sentence saying you believe in good faith that it was shared without the consent of the person shown.
  4. How to reach you, if not by replying to your email.

What we do

We remove it within 48 hours of getting a request with those four things. Removing a post takes it away from everyone it was shared with, and we also remove every reshare of it.

If what you sent is not enough for us to find it, we write back and ask for more.

If the person shown is under 18, say so. We also report it, as our child safety standards describe.

What we cannot do

Everything on people you know is end-to-end encrypted. We cannot see the photo, search for it, or recognise another copy of it posted separately. That is why we need the account and about when.

Anyone the photo was shared with can also report the post from the app. That points us at the exact post.
